how to use toba · step by step

Docs

From signup to your first auto-published post in under 10 minutes. Follow the steps in order the first time — after that, you'll mostly live in Topics and Posts.

step 01

Connect your WordPress site

  1. 01Open the app and go to Sites → Add site.
  2. 02Pick Self-hosted (app password) or WordPress.com (OAuth).
  3. 03For self-hosted: in WP-Admin → Users → Profile → Application Passwords, create a password named “toba” and paste the URL + username + generated password.
  4. 04For WordPress.com: click Connect and approve toba in the popup.
  5. 05You'll see a green “Connected” badge and a list of your post categories.
step 02

Set your brand voice (quick)

  1. 01Open Projects → New project (or an existing one).
  2. 02Fill in audience and a short tone line (e.g. “friendly expert, no jargon”).
  3. 03Add 3–8 do/don't rules — hard constraints in every draft.
  4. 04For a much closer match to how you actually write, use Voice Learning in the next step.
step 03

Teach toba your writing voice

  1. 01Open Voice → New profile.
  2. 02Paste 1–50 URLs of posts whose voice you want to match (your own archive works best).
  3. 03Click Learn voice — toba crawls the samples and distills a ~400-word editable style guide covering rhythm, vocabulary, persona, and paragraph shape.
  4. 04Test it: enter any topic and generate a sample paragraph to sanity-check the tone.
  5. 05Assign the profile as the default for a site, or pick it per post in Post Gen. Strict SEO rules (banned phrases, keyword placement, structure) still win where they must.
step 04

Add topics & a publishing schedule

  1. 01Open the Topics tab inside the project.
  2. 02Add topic ideas, focus keywords, URLs to react to, or broad themes — toba mines fresh angles from live news.
  3. 03Set cadence: posts per week, the day(s) you want them, and Draft vs Auto-publish.
  4. 04Pick the WordPress site, default category, and author.
step 05

Pick your image style

  1. 01In Post Gen, choose an image mode: Auto (real photo when a strong match exists, AI otherwise), Real photo (Pexels), or AI thumbnail.
  2. 02For AI thumbnails, pick a style: Bold (MrBeast-style, high-contrast), Editorial (clean, magazine), or Meme (playful).
  3. 03Optionally toggle hook text on the image and type a short punchy line — toba bakes it into the thumbnail.
  4. 04Mix mode: featured = AI thumbnail on top, inline images = real Pexels photos in the body. Best of both.
step 06

Generate your first post

  1. 01Click New post → choose a topic, paste a URL, or type free-form notes.
  2. 02Pick SEO depth: Light, Balanced, or Aggressive (keyword density, FAQ block, JSON-LD).
  3. 03You'll see a preview first — proposed title, outline, and thumbnail concept. Approve or regenerate before the 60-second full draft runs.
  4. 04Review in the editor. Tweak headings or regenerate any section.
step 07

Publish to WordPress

  1. 01From the post editor, click Publish.
  2. 02Choose Draft (lands in WP as a draft) or Publish now.
  3. 03Confirm category, tags, and featured image — toba sets them from your defaults.
  4. 04Open the live URL from the success toast to verify.
step 08

Turn on autopilot

  1. 01Back in the project, flip Auto-publish on.
  2. 02Cron ticks every 60 seconds — toba picks the next topic on schedule, writes it in the site's assigned voice, and pushes it live.
  3. 03Pause any time from the project header. Existing drafts are kept.
step 09

Billing & limits

  1. 01Go to Billing to see your plan, included posts, and next invoice.
  2. 02Upgrade or downgrade instantly — proration is handled by Stripe.
  3. 03Cancel any time; access stays through the current period.
step 10

Troubleshooting

  1. 01Publish failed? Check Sites — the connection badge will show the exact error (expired token, missing scope, 401).
  2. 02Post sounds off-brand? Regenerate the voice profile from more/better sample URLs, or tighten do/don't rules in the project.
  3. 03Thumbnails feel generic? Try a different style (Bold vs Editorial vs Meme) or add hook text.
  4. 04Still stuck? Email support@toba.ai with the post ID.
